Document Destruction

Although it would be ideal to have a paperless office, that isn't always practical. And even if you are fortunate enough to go entirely paperless, you may have paper files from before the switch to a paperless office. I am Interested in learning what others from small offices are doing for document destruction. For those of us with minimal document destruction needs there do not seem to be a lot of good options. One can buy a shredder and have it done internally, but this is inefficient except for the smallest of jobs. I did see a company providing off-site shredding services, where you send them boxes via FedEx ground and they shred them, all for about $30 for a 30 pound or less box(including shipping). This seems intriguing - the website is http://www.expressdestruction.com/home/

One of the first things I do is put language in the engagement letter giving me the authority to destroy the file without further authorization from the client.

I slim files down when I close them, and use a shredder for documents within the file which are sensitive. I have not yet had my closed files destroyed... But from what I understand, many document storage locations provide document destruction or can refer you to document destruction companies. If privacy is a concern, Brinks (the security people) also do secure data destruction, and I believe they come to you. (Presumably their fees reflect that.)
