Recommendations for software to create visual schematics or flow diagrams

One of my lawyers wants to create visual schematics to explain estate plans to his prospective clients. These would be created prior to a face-to-face meeting and I am looking for suggestions on the best Windows-based software package for creating schematics or simple flow diagrams. These will be created from a keyboard, not a stylus and not real time for display.

He wondered about Powerpoint? SmartDraw? Visio? another program?

Thanks in advance!

I use powerpoint for simple visuals, but I understand that smart draw has a legal edition that comes with some canned diagrams/charts -- they would probably be very helpful for the use you describe.
