Part of the mission of the Business Lawyers Network (BLN) is to facilitate the development of networks and collaboration among lawyers and other professionals. To further this goal, we plan to create new sub-groups that will focus on specialty areas of interest.

Our first subgroup, the Business Formation Focus Group, will focus on business formation issues such as choice of entity, entity conversion, and complex business structures. The group will review different types of entities and will likely involve a case-study format where group members will lead the discussion and/or participate in discussions.

In accordance with BLN’s collaboration model, the Business Formation Focus Group will encourage participants to share and learn practical knowledge from each other about the form of entity that would best apply in different situations. The group would also serve as a resource for the members in developing their own practice.

Membership for this subgroup is open to everyone, but, ideally, it will consist of business/corporate lawyers, accountants, financial planners and other professionals who regularly advise clients on the appropriate choice of entity. The subgroup will likely meet once per month for a 4 or 6 month period.
An initial planning meeting is scheduled for July 26, 2006 at 8am. The location will depend on how many people sign up.
