Topic: "Planning for a Liquidity Event"
Speaker: Byron E. Woodman, Jr. of Woodman & Eaton, P.C.
Place: Rebecca's Café, Wellesley Office Park, 55 William St, Wellesley (Directions)

The time has come for your client to sell his or her business and monetize the equity built up over many years of hard work. What should your client be doing to prepare for the event, both financially and emotionally? What issues will your client confront subsequent to the liquidity event? Although selling a business is for most entrepreneurs the final validation of a successful business career, for many it can also be a disruptive and jarring experience. The entrepreneur finds himself or herself with a great deal of wealth, but little in the way of experience or support to deploy it in a way that is consistent with his or her new circumstances. Byron Woodman will discuss the things you can do to help your client understand (even before the liquidity event) the issues and challenges that can arise. He will outline a process for building a team of professionals to provide the support and strategies appropriate for someone whose priority has shifted from wealth creation to wealth preservation.

Byron E. Woodman, Jr., Esq. graduated from Boston University’s School of Management where he majored in Accounting. Byron received his Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School and his LL.M. degree in Taxation from Boston University Law School. He is also an Accredited Estate Planner with the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils. He was an associate and then partner in the Boston law firm of Sherburne, Powers & Needham. In 1980, he formed the law firm which is now Woodman & Eaton, P.C. He is also the founder of Monument Financial Advisors, LLC and The Monument Group Fiduciaries, LLC. He is a Director of Cambridge Trust Company and served on the Emerson Hospital Board of Directors for eight years. He also served as Chairman of the Concord-Carlisle Scholarship Fund for eight years.
