BLN (Boston, MA) - July 18, 2008
Business Lawyers Network - Boston **Signup**
Topic: "Generating New Business in a Down Economy"
Speaker: Jim Hassett, Founder of LegalBizDev
Place: Citizens Bank, 53 State Street, 8th Floor, Boston, MA (Directions)
A down economy presents lawyers with marketing challenges and opportunities. When competitors become hungrier and more aggressive, they can challenge the relationships you have with your own clients. But if you have more time for marketing, it can be an opportunity to build a strong foundation for the future. The lawyers that are most successful in a down economy will be the ones who improve their marketing efficiency, strengthen relationships with current clients and build bridges to new ones.
This presentation will help do just that, by reviewing data from American Lawyer Media, BTI Consulting, the Legal Marketing Association, and the Association of Corporate Counsel, as well as marketing advice from leading consultants.
Jim Hassett founded LegalBizDev to help lawyers develop new business more quickly by applying best practices from other law firms and from other professions. Before he started working with lawyers, Jim had 20 years of experience as a sales trainer and consultant to companies from American Express to Zurich Financial Services. Jim has published seven books (including Legal Business Development: A Step by Step Guide and The LegalBizDev Desk Reference™) and more than seventy articles in publications ranging from the New York Times Magazine to Legal Management and Strategies: The Journal of Legal Marketing. He frequently speaks at law firms and professional organizations including the Massachusetts Bar and the New York, New England, and Southeastern chapters of the Legal Marketing Association. Jim also conducts national webinars through the Legal Marketing Association, the Law Journal Newsletter Web Audio Series, and West LegalWorks. He has a Ph.D. from Harvard University, and is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology at Boston University. His blog Legal Business Development was selected by TechnoLawyer as one of “the most influential legal blogs” and featured in BlawgWorld. Jim’s most recent publication is The LegalBizDev Success Kit™, a multimedia reference tool that was released in December 2007, and has already been purchased by firms with a total of over 11,500 lawyers.
The format will be a one-hour meeting from 8:00-9:00am (arrive at 7:45 for networking). A half-hour of networking after the meeting would be optional.
The Business Lawyers Network (BLN) is comprised of lawyers concentrating in complementary disciplines such as corporate, securities, commercial contracts, government contracts, secured lending, taxes, import/export, immigration, real estate, environmental, patents, trademarks, licensing, etc. Non-lawyer business professionals are also welcome, but the topic and focus of discussion will be geared toward the legal profession.
